Covid-19 rules: How to stay safe in hairdressers and beauty salons

You can finally stop getting a DIY lockdown haircut from a family member and head back to the barbers.

However, there are few things you may need to be aware of before booking your much-needed pamper session at the local salon.

Here are some of latest Covid-19 guidelines for hairdressers and barbers.

Will clients have to wear a mask?

Face coverings are mandatory for customers visiting nail, beauty, hair salons and barbers; massage centres; tattoo and piercing parlours.

Face coverings should not be removed unless essential for a particular treatment – for example, for a treatment on the face area covered by the mask.

Hairdressers and barbers will be required to wear a mask or a full-face plastic visor to reduce the risk of infection.

What are some of the measures in place to help keep me safe?

Some Salons will be use screens to separate clients from each other, and to separate practitioners from clients, such as in nail salons.

There are appointment-only booking systems in place to minimise the number of people in the salon at any one time. The time it takes to complete the haircut or treatment will be kept to a minimum.

There will be increased hand washing and surface cleaning, as well regular cleaning of equipment or using disposable equipment where possible.

Salons will also look to avoid skin to skin contact and wearing gloves where it is not crucial to the service, such as in nail bars and tanning salons.
